Rafael's boron carbide tiles are custom shaped ballistic tiles made of pressureless sintered boron carbide. Shapes like hexagons and multi-curve plates can be manufactured. The tiles are lightweight, cost effective and have high ballistic properties especially suited for personal armored vests.
Rafael's boron carbide tiles, backed with polyethylene, successfully withstand threats of:
- SS109 – with real density of 24 kg/m2
- AK47AP – with real density of 28 kg/m2
- APM2 – real density of about 33 kg/m2
