Hotspur is an advanced, disposable anti-IED device comprising a warhead with an integrated sight, both mounted on a tripod. Hotspur is effective yet, very simple to operate and can be deployed by a single soldier.
Once an IED is discovered, the operator mounts Hotspur on a tripod, at a safe standoff distance; safe enough in case the enemy intentionally activates the IED by remote control. When activated, the warhead explodes into a spray of high velocity fragments, energetic enough to detonate the IED explosive and activate any additional charges which could have been linked to it. Once set in firing position, Hotspur can be activated from behind a shelter.
